    Gerardo - English Bio

Look out he's back! That's right Gerardo AKA Rico Suave is back with the SMASH follow up to his 1990 anthem "Rico Suave" - "Sigo Siendo Rico" (Still Rico) is already catching fire at Latin radio stations in the United States and beyond.

Born Gerardo Mejia on April 16th in Ecuador, Gerardo has had a long and prosperous career both in front and behind the music industry scene. In 1991 Gerardo hit the charts with "Rico Suave" the huge hit from his debut album Mo' Ritmo which rose to number seven on the charts. "Rico Suave" was followed up with an equally successful single release of "We Want to Funk." Mo' Ritmo topped the charts and solidifed his platinum status as an artist. Gerardo also established himself as the first breakthrough Latin dance artist in music with his blend of English and Spanish raps which became known as "Spanglish."

As the years past Gerardo retired from being a headlining artist to residing in his office at Interscope Records as head of A&R for the dance division. As the first artist on Interscope Records Gerardo was an asset not to be overlooked. Gerardo is responsible for signing and developing Enrique Iglesias as well as Valeria to name a few.

Gerardo also tried his hand in the movie industry landing roles in "Colors" and "Can't Buy Me Love" but felt most at home finding and developing Latin dance talents. As the Latin market continues to grow you can be sure Gerardo will be on the heels of new talent.

Time went by and now firmly rooted in his career and with his growing family Gerardo is ready to be in front of the camera again with the release of "Sigo Siendo Rico" and a steaming hot video to boot. Gerardo is soon to be back on the lips and minds of music fans.
