Biography
Salsa/freestyle artist George Lamond has romance flowing through his bloodstream. Listening to his latest CD Entrega, which is the first that he has released with his new recording label Prestigio Recordings, will surely convince anyone who doubts this.
Lamond acknowledges that love and all that it encompasses drive him to make the smooth, sexy, passionate music that he does. A native of Washington DC, Lamond commented, "I've been singing since before I could reason. All my life I knew this is what I wanted to do." However, unlike most performers who are fueled by their passion for music, Lamond didn't bypass the academic route. After graduating from the High School of Art & Design, he pursued a degree in architecture. But his love for music kept tapping him on the shoulder, and he had to take notice. He began his musical career by making dance music in English, and received notoriety in the American market with hits like "Bad of the Heart" and "Where does that leave love," but after much coaxing by Marc Anthony, he decided to follow his heart and began recording in Spanish.
He became intoxicated with the Latin rhythms and culture, and has channeled those feelings into a unique style and sound that have both the American and Latin markets swooning.
Now, he performs all over the country to sold out audiences, but Lamond still reflects back on the past when his audience were friends and family by singing Jackson 5 and Menudo melodies. In his career, he has worked with an impressive array of producers, including Tony Moran, Chris Barbosa, and Carlos Berrios. Currently, he is working with John "Gungie" Rivera, President of Prestigio Recordings.
George Lamond has received nominations for several distinctive awards, including "Best Male Pop Vocalist" in 1992, and "Best Male R&B Vocalist" by the New York Music Awards. Showcased on both Entertainment Tonight and CNN's "Showbiz today", he is also an endorser of Coca Cola and Reebok products.
One thing that is both interesting and impressive about this artist is that he received no formal voice training. The beautiful voice that we hear today is a result of his own self-training. He maneuvers his way from ballads to dance tracks effortlessly and with incredible results. Entrega provides the evidence.
