As the century comes to an end , we once again come together for a celebration of the highest magnitude: At the Mecca of all events Madison Square Garden. Ralph Mercado,
the one man that brings in all the Best in Tropical Music under one roof, such as Dark Latin Groove, Sergio Vargas, Elvis Crespo, and the number one sonero: Victor Manuelle.
La Mega's own Paco hosted the festivities with his unique Nuyoriquien Spanish; he added a excellent touch to the evening.
Prestigio Recording artist George Lamond kicked off the party with his version of the hit: "Si Te Vas", and then came Tito Nieves with his new hit "Le Gustan Que La Vean" (highly recommended). Brenda K. Starr and Frankie Negron did a duet of Puerto Rico, which was unrehearsed. All of their respected hits including, "I Still Believe," "Agua Pasada," and "Herida" respectively. Segio Vargas, Millie Quezada (the queen of Merengue)
Charlie Cruz, Nora (ex lead vocalist of La Orquesta de la Luz), and Elvis Crespo all did a wonderful job on stage. At the conclusion of the evening we had Gilberto Santa Rosa and his "Prodigy," Victor Manuelle, on stage giving us their heart and soul. It was truly a beautiful and spectacular event. In my opinion, I am sure that all in attendance had a great time and can't wait to the next one on October 23rd as the Fania All-Stars take the stage.
The New York Salsa Festival once again brought the summer to a close and set the stage for the last fall/winter of the Millennium and I know that this event will be running strong in the next century. I will surely be there every year. I would like to thank Dagmar Lopez of RMM Records for her invitation and to all the RMM staff backstage; you guys did a wonderful job.
Peace love n happiness
