As the foliage continues to fall in the north east, club goers aren't getting cooled down at all thanks to some Hot releases.
Carlos Vives is back with a new record and a new single called: "Fruta Fresca" on EMI Latin. This Vallenato says dance from the moment it goes on till it ends. I was immediately drawn to the intensity of the song and how it just seems to invelope you. Carlos is no stranger to creating infectious rhythms, he was responsible for the international smash "La Gota Fria" just a few years ago. I love the song in its original form although the remix which was produced by Miami's Pablo Flores (Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez etc..) is pretty hype as well.
On the remix tip, Prestigio Recordings has put out some HOT remixes to the smash hit "Que te Vas" by George Lamond. There is a Bilingual House Mix that translates the words into english so that your anglo friends will know what George is talking about while your dancing away at the club. For those who are true to the original, there is a Latin House Mix. These mixes were done by Eddie "Kuki" Perez (9.11 Nueve Once & Frase Klave producer) and DJ Mate. For those who are like me and like their house more on the progressive tip then go to the Tribal Mix which was done by DJ Lucho with keyboards done by D'Mingo ("Rumba"). The one mix that I thought was really hype was the Reggae Mix which was put together by Prestige Production DJ, Ted Smooth. This mix even has a cameo by spanish rapper Ledesma. The CD-5 is rounded out by a Salsa Remix by Mega 97.9 DJ: Baron Lopez. Baron adds some great additional production to the track making the intro longer and the piano breakdown in the middle more sabroso. This CD-5 is a most have for all DJs and salsa fans.
Frankie Negron has just released his 3rd album on WEA Caribe: Lo que Llevvo por Dentro. The 1st promotional single off the album is "Remolino." The song was arranged by the masterful Ramon Sanchez. It was a delight to hear him work with another producer just for the value of showing his vocal talents on a different level. The song has an excellent arrangement and a catchy coro and Frankie's vocals are on point. Hint for the full review: Frankie also worked with Angel Fernandez as well as the legendary Sergio George. So you already know it's a must have.
Luisito Ayala's Puerto Rican Power has been packing my and every other DJs dancefloor with his smash "Tu Carinito" on HMS Records. This is off his new release MIS: Men In Salsa. The cover is funny since it is a spoof on the Men In Black theme. All joking aside this track packs a big punch with its salsa meets reggae spin. It isn't a DLG type of song but it delivers with a great arrangement and some good vocal rhyming. Check out the soundclip...you are sure to like it.
From PR we go to back to Colombia. Charlie Cardona (ex-Grupo Niche singer) has a new song out titled "Tonto Corazon" on WEA Caribe. The song is a dancers delight which translates into a DJ's pleasure because anything that wins my crowd over also wins me over. Listen for yourself and I am sure you will agree.
Also on WEA Caribe and from Colombia is the ex-Alquimia singer, Carolina Lao. Carolina's 1st single as a solo artist is: "Yo Soy La Rumba". The song keeps the same style that we have come to know from her when she was with Alquimia which I am sure her fans will love. I hear the Gemelos are also about to drop a new production ...we'll keep you posted.
K-libre returns with a new production on Musical Productions (MP) and this one is a sure fire hit. The 1st single is "Tiene Swing" which immediately grabs your hips and makes you move in ways you have never moved before. Check it out, this is Merengue Bomba at its best.
Okay, when you speak of Merengue Bomba you have to talk about the originators: Los Hermanos Rosario. You'll have to agree with me that they don't put out enough albums but they do have a new appropriately titled: BOMBA 2000. The 1st single off the album is "Siento" and Rapha you did it again..this is the example that others live by. "Siento" is, what can I say: perfect. These guys are truly the masters...that could be why the new La Makina single on J&N titled, "El Ritmo Kaliente," is a tribute Los Hermanos Rosario for creating the swing that they and others like Elvis Crespo, Grupo Mania, and many more do.
Well fans, this is it for me this time out but check me out next time as I'll have the new music from Grupo Mania, Tono Rosario and more.
